A Rufous Hummingbird has been banded at the home of Kathy Sawyer in Roswell. Call her at 998-3119 to arrange to visit. Another Rufous Hummingbird is at the Brewsters' home in Duluth: 476-2682; a third is at the Birdwatchers' Supply Co. in Macon (check Yellow Pages for phone). Several probable Rufous Hummingbirds are in Early County in SW Georgia at the home of the Gregory family: 912-641-3480. 4 Greater Scaup were at the E.L. Huie Land Application Facility (sewage treatment plant) in Clayton County south of Atlanta 12/25. To get to the E.L. Huie facility, take I-75 south of the Atlanta beltway to exit 77 (Tara Blvd.) and drive south on US 19/41 for 8.2 miles to Freeman Rd. Turn left onto Freeman Road and then take the first left onto Dixon Industrial Blvd. A Common Goldeneye male was at Big Creek Park boat launch 12/26. This is off Holiday Road, the road to Lake Lanier Islands. Georgia's second record for Broad-tailed Hummingbird is still in Kennesaw as of Dec. 19 at the home of Bill and Teresa Snyder. From I75 north take exit 116 and go west on Barrett Pkwy. At the end of Barrett turn right onto US 41 (Cobb Pkwy) and go 3.5 miles N to Mack-Dobbs Road (Lumber and Cross Ties store is at the corner). Turn left and go 1.5 miles to the Signal Point subdivision and turn left onto Lark Haven Dr. [sic]. Take an immediate left onto Hartwood Dr. Go to #2167 and walk to the back of the house along the driveway. If not there, it has also been seen occasionally in front of the Brenda Lightel [sp?] house, #2173. A scope is best at both feeders.

A Rufous Hummingbird has been banded at the home of Kathy Sawyer in Roswell. Call her at 998-3119 to arrange to visit. Georgia's second record for Broad-tailed Hummingbird is still in Kennesaw as of Dec. 14 at the home of Bill and Teresa Snyder. From I75 north take exit 116 and go west on Barrett Pkwy. At the end of Barrett turn right onto US 41 (Cobb Pkwy) and go 3.5 miles N to Mack-Dobbs Road (Lumber and Cross Ties store is at the corner). A scope is best at both feeders. The Henslow's Sparrows but not the Le Conte's Sparrow were seen recently at Paulk's Pasture WMA near Brunswick. From I-95 take US 341, 8.2 miles NW to an obscure sign for the WMA. Take a left and drive 0.2 miles to the power substation and walk the wet field to the left. American White Pelicans are probably at the regular winter site from the Cumberland I. Ferry (reservations required: 912-882-4335). At low tide they feed in shallows N of the intersection of Cumberland Sound and the St Mary's River. At high tide, they are on sand bars on the FL side of the river. Lt. Gov. Pierre Howard missed out on seeing Purple Sandpipers at the N end of Tybee I. recently. But they may well return to this regular site. If they are not on the jetty near the lighthouse parking lot, they may roost with the Ruddy Turnstones in the dunes.

A Rufous Hummingbird has been banded at the home of Kathy Sawyer in Roswell. Call her at 998-3119 to arrange to visit. Georgia's second record for Broad-tailed Hummingbird was banded in the Atlanta area. Call the numbers above to arrange to view the bird. It is not clear that the homeowner will keep the feeder up, but Bill Blakeslee will be visiting the homeowner Friday to try to persuade them to keep the feeder up. Keep your feeder up if you have one. Reports of at least 10 other hummingbirds in the state are being followed up this week. At Oxbow Lake near Azalea Drive and
Willeo Road in Roswell, a number of ducks are roosting including 5 Gadwall, 2 Green-winged Teal and 10 American Wigeon. We don't have any other reports but the following coastal species are probably still present: There have been Henslow's Sparrows and Le Conte's Sparrow at Paulk's Pasture WMA near Brunswick. From I-95 take US 341, 8.2 miles NW to an obscure sign for the WMA. Take a left and drive 0.2 miles to the power substation and walk the wet field to the left.
