The following is the transcription of the Georgia Rare Bird Alert (RBA) Monday
evening telephone report, March 29, 2004. The RBA is a service of the Georgia
Ornithological Society.
A visiting birder located a HENSLOW'S SPARROW on Sunday at the Chattahoochee
Nature Center near Roswell, Fulton County. The site is off Willeo Road, in the
area of the gate as you cross over to the boardwalk. The bird was seen in the
open and very well described. You can call the CNC at 770-992-2055 for
information. From Roswell Road and Azalea Drive, go west on Azalea and turn left
on Willeo Road. The CNC will be on your right where you can park and pay
admission fee.

evening telephone report, March 27, 2004. The RBA is a service of the Georgia
Ornithological Society.
The adult FRANKLIN'S GULL was not seen at West Point Dam. There were 6 COMMON
GOLDENEYE and some BONAPARTE'S GULLS reported from the dam area but very
distant. DeLorme atlas page 24, grid F2.
At EL HUIE in Clayton County, a female REDHEAD was reported in the north-east

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON continues at Lake Horton in Fayette County. Also seen
were HORNED GREBE, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, and COMMON GOLDENEYE on the left side of
Antioch Road.

From Plant Wansley in Carroll/Heard County, 150 HORNED GREBE, 25 COMMON LOON,
500 LESSER SCAUP and BLUE-WINGED TEAL. This area is accessible to birders again,
call ahead to get permission at 770-854-3360, this is a Georgia Power facility.
This site can be found in DeLorme page 25 Grid F/G 6, it is labeled as a water
storage reservoir just south of Lowell.

An adult FRANKLIN'S GULL was seen and photographed at West Point Dam on Monday

The BLACK-HEADED GULL has not been seen at the southend of Jekyll Island since
it was originally reported. This is only the second record of this species in

A male SURF SCOTER was found at Panola Mountain State Conservation Park on the
main lake in Rockdale Co. Recently there have also been HORNED GREBES on the

Also from Jekyll, a very good report of 75 AMERICAN AVOCET at the South Beach of
Jekyll Island. [DeLorme: p. 63, grid H-7; Birding Georgia: p. 203]

was also seen leaving the area. This is only the second record of this species

At Pine Log WMA in Bartow county, Pierre Howard and Andy Boyce reported finding
four RED CROSSBILLS on Friday. The birds were fairly close to the first gate as

RINGED-NECKED, LESSER and 2 GREATER SCAUP (on pond B) NORTHERN SHOVELER and

The adult male SURF SCOTER continues to be seen at the small lake in a
subdivision in McDonough in Henry County. To see the bird, contact James Brook
at 770-914-0960 219 Scenic Drive, McDonough, the bird is being seen behind the
tennis courts in a private lake.
The two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE have returned to the ponds at the EL HUIE
