The WHITE-WINGED DOVE on Jekyll Island was seen again on Friday afternoon after
a 3 day search by Denny and Pam McClure. The bird has been seen off and on at

On Sunday, October 31st, 3 FRANKLIN'S GULLS were observed by Jim Flynn and Earl
Horn at West Point Lake in Troup County. They were re-sighted later in the day

The Cochran Shoals Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has
had a number of great sparrows lately. On Wednesday Pierre Howard and others
found the following sparrows in the field behind the bathrooms: CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, LE CONTE'S SPARROW, HENSLOW'S SPARROW, GRASSHOPPER

Jeff Sewell and an Atlanta Audubon field trip found a CAVE SWALLOW at the
Phinizy Swamp Nature Park in Augusta today Sunday Oct. 24. It was resighted on
the evening of 10/24 at 5-6:30pm Directions to Phinizy Swamp Nature Park are as
follows: From I-20, take exit 196A, Bobby Jones Expressway (I-520). Take Bobby
Jones Expressway to exit 10, GA Spur 56. Turn right, toward Bush Field Airport.
Travel just under 1 mile until you see the Wastewater Treatment Plant on your
left. Turn left just past the Plant onto Lock & Dam Road. Travel just under =
mile until you see a small house on the left. Just past the house, look for the
Phinizy Swamp Nature Park entrance sign on your left. The bird was seen with 3
CLIFF SWALLOWS, 1 BARN SWALLOW, and many TREE SWALLOWS. The Visitor Center will
be on your left. Take the first dike(path)to your left and go to the kiosk. Turn
right at the kiosk and follow that dike till it ends at a pond. The swallows

Eugene Keferl resighted the WHITE-WINGED DOVE on Jekyll Island at 7:55am Sunday.
The bird is at the home of Marjorie Clark at 4 Porter Lane.

Ian Stephenson reported a GOLDEN EAGLE from Harris Neck NWR in McIntosh County.

with Turkey Vultures on Saturday 10/23. He also re-sighted the CLAY-COLORED
SPARROWS at the Altamaha River Waterfowl Management Area. [DeLorme: p. 63, grid

On October 21, Michael Beohm reported a FRANKLIN'S GULL from the south beach of
Jekyll Island. He also sighted 21 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS from Tybee Island.

Marion Dobbs reported a LINCOLN'S SPARROW from Arrowhead Env. Education Center

founda RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH at her Floyd County yard. There have been quite a
few RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH sightings throughout the Piedmont this fall.

RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES have been reported throughout the Atlanta area and are
probably staging an invasion. Keep an eye on your feeders.
Carol Lambert reported 2 STILT SANDPIPERS, along with additional sandpipers and
ducks at the EL Huie Land Application Facility. She also reported that an
employee has observed that the ROSEATE SPOONBILL is still in the area, although
it wasn't seen at Lake Blalock on a recent field trip. Also observed were 3 TREE
SWALLOWS and 1 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW. See her GABO-L post for more info.

Paulding Co., PHILADELPHIA VIREOS at two different creek crossings in Paulding
Co. and an immature AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS at the Harris Farm section of Sod
Atlanta near Taylorsville,Bartow Co.

4 STILT SANDPIPERS at the Titan Turf Farm, in Bulloch County.

The Colonial Coast Birding and Nature Festival took place on Oct 8-10. Notable
birds included:
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS at the east side of Hwy 17 at the Altamaha Waterfowl
Management Area, and on Little St. Simons Island. Also seen at the Altamaha
Waterfowl Management Area were GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, PEREGRINE FALCONS, and a
MERLIN. LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were observed behind the visitor's center on the
Jekyll Island Causeway and on Little St. Simons Island. Also seen at that
location where 2 WHIMBRELS and 2 MARBLED GODWITS. Other birds seen at Little St.
Simons Island included PEREGRINE FALCONS, MERLIN, BALD EAGLES, RED KNOTS and
REDDISH EGRETS. REDDISH EGRETS were also seen at Sapelo Island and Gould's Inlet
(St. Simons Island). Sapelo Island also had BLACK-NECKED STILTS and over a
thousand RED KNOTS.

On Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at the lower areas of Carter's Lake in Murray Max Medley,
David Chaffin, John Henderson and Dan Jacobson could not refind the CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW reported earlier but they did manage to find some good birds including 1
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 4 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, 10 SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 12 WOOD
