McDaniel Farm Park is located off of McDaniel Rd. off of Old Norcross Rd. behind the Land Rover Dealership. Karen also reports that a female BALTIMORE ORIOLE continues to feed on grapes at her home in Lawrenceville in Gwinnett Co.
It's been a pretty good weekend in the state.
The COMMON EIDER first reported by a birder from the UK on Oct 17th and
forwarded to GABO by Bill Lotz on the East River in Brunswick in Glynn Co.
continues as of Oct 27th. This could be the same bird that was seen by a couple
of birders on Tybee Island on October 14. Directions: Go west on Gloucester
Street (GA 25) past where it crosses Bay St./Golden Isles Parkway (US 341). Park
and walk to the river, you'll be facing the docks and across toward Andrews

point, as well as under the docks.
The PACIFIC LOON first reported by Terry Johnson and forwarded by Tim Keyes on
Thursday at Plant Scherer on Lake Juliette in Monroe Co. continues to be seen.
Unfortunately, Plant Scherer is unaccessable to most birders unless you are on a
GA DNR guided trip. If you would like to to see this bird on a guided trip, call
the GA Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR) at 478-994-1438, or the Atlanta
DNR, which can be found in the phone book. There are some field trips going
there from Macon Audubon and Atlanta Audubon in November.

Management Area on the east side of US17 near the observation tower. They also
report 1, maybe 3 CAVE SWALLOWs in a large flock of Tree Swallows behind the big
white DNR house on the west side of US17. Look in any large flock of Trees
Swallows for this species, which seems to be occurring in any large flock of
Tree Swallows on the coast. They also reported an AMERICAN BITTERN there. This
may be the best spot in Georgia to see this species.
A flock of 41 SANDHILL CRANES were reported by Josh Spence in north Gordon Co.
on Oct 27, and 2-3 flocks in the Atlanta area as well.
Kelly Bettinger reported a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in Athens on the campus of the

BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER
hotline: Georgia Rare Bird Alert The following is a summary of the Georgia Rare Bird Alert (RBA) Monday evening telephone report, October 23, 2006. The RBA is a service of the Georgia Ornithological Society. Jeff Sewell is the voice of the RBA.
The female BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER first seen on Friday at the end of
Powerhouse Rd. at the re-regulation lake at Carters Lake in Murray Co., and
relocated on Saturday and Sunday, was relocated today, Monday Oct. 23, in the
same area. Not everyone that has been there has found this bird, but the longer
you stay in this area, the better chance you have to see it. In the fields
nearby up to eleven species of Sparrows have been seen, including White-crowned,
Fox, Lincoln's, and Vesper Sparrows. Nashville Warblers have also been seen
there. Directions to Carters Lake: From the intersection of I-75 and US411 in Bartow Co., go north on US411 towards Chatsworth. After crossing the northern county line of Gordon Co., you'll see a sign on the right for Carters Lake. At the traffic light (GA136/US411), go right on GA136, over the RR tracks, and in about 100 yds turn left on Old Hwy 411. Go about 2-3 miles past the Re-regulation Dam parking lot, looking for the Powerhouse Rd. sign. Turn right on Powerhouse Rd., and in less than a mile you'll come to a gravel road on the right. If you continue on, you'll see another gravel road - this is a loop. Turn right on the first gravel road, and in about 200 yds there will be another gravel road - a spur road. Take this spur road to the dead end and a fence denoting US Government property. The Black-throated Gray Warbler was seen from this point, all the way around south along the edge of the lake, in the woods and shrubs, until about 200-300 yds past the boat launch.
An immature BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was seen on the beach at the north end of
Tybee Island by Steve Wagner and Deb Barreiro on Sunday, Oct. 22. This bird was
photographed, but it is unknown if it was seen again today. Jack Caruso reports two MOURNING WARBLERS, a MERLIN, and a VIRGINIA RAIL from "The Bottoms" in Dawson Co., part of a new park there. Directions: From the intersection of GA400 and Dawson Forest Rd. (at the mall), go about a mile or two and take a right on GA9. In a mile or so you'll cross the Etowah River and a big flat area on the left; the recreation area is on the back side of the flat area. Take the next road on the left. It comes to a T. Turn left and go to the rear of the recreation area and take the walking trail to the new path down about 200 yds. Look for where the walking trail turns to the east for the path. At this point you'll probably be on private land, but it should be no problem. The Mourning Warblers were seen in this wet area in a hedge. Karen Theodorou reports a first-year WILSON'S WARBLER at her home in Lawrenceville. She also had a BALTIMORE ORIOLE eating grapes there. Baltimore Orioles love grapes and this is a great way to attract them into your yard. Her yard takes the prize for rare birds this fall.

BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER
hotline: Georgia Rare Bird Alert The following is a summary of the Georgia Rare Bird Alert (RBA) Sunday evening telephone report, October 22, 2006. The RBA is a service of the Georgia Ornithological Society. Jeff Sewell is the voice of the RBA. The female BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER first seen on Friday at the end of Powerhouse Rd. at the re-regulation lake at Carters Lake in Murray Co. and relocated on Saturday, was also relocated today, Sunday Oct. 22, by some, but not by others, in the same area by a number of birders. This is only the third or fourth record of this species in Georgia. Directions follow. The BALD EAGLE was also seen again at the re-regulation lake, possibly nesting. A Bald Eagle pair has been seen nesting there in the recent past. Also seen in the fields there again were Vesper, Fox, Lincoln's & White-crowned Sparrows, as well as a NASHVILLE WARBLER and a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH. The Lincoln's Sparrow was seen on Saturday at the NW end of the spur road. These birds were found by a number of birders and may not represent what one person could see in one visit. Directions to Carters Lake: From the intersection of I-75 and US411 in Bartow Co., go north on US411 towards Chatsworth. After crossing the northern county line of Gordon Co., you'll see a sign on the right for Carters Lake.
