A secondhand report was received that the SOUTH POLAR SKUA was observed on 6/28
off of the Doll Mountain Recreation Area; located on the east side of Carters
Lake, Gilmer Co. Other areas to search for the skua are the marina, the Damsite
Recreation Area, Northbank Park, Harris Branch Recreation Area, and Woodring
Branch Recreation Area.
On 6/18, a MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was observed over Jekyll Island, Glynn Co.

A pair of GRAY KINGBIRDS has fledged 3 or 4 young in downtown Savannah, Chatham
Co. The fledglings were being fed in the oak trees in the median of Oglethorpe
Ave. near the intersection of Fahm St.

On 6/24, a WILLOW FLYCATCHER was seen in a marsh at the southwest corner of Rock
Creek Park, Dawson Co. Head north on GA 9 from the Dawson/Forsyth Co. line until
you cross the Etowah River; watch for Bannister Rd. (dirt road) on the left;
turn onto Bannister Rd. and turn left into the park a short ways down Bannister
Rd. Once at the park, proceed to the southwest corner. Go through a brushy/woody
area to a marsh were the WILLOW FLYCATCHER was seen.

There have been no reports (positive or negative) of the SOUTH POLAR SKUA at
Carters Lake since Sunday, 6/24. Best viewing opportunities have been from the
marina, the Damsite Recreation Area, Northbank Park and Harris Branch Recreation
Area on the south side of the lake, and Woodring Branch Recreation Area on the
north side of the lake. An adult HORNED GREBE and several COMMON LOONS have also
been reported on the lake.
On 6/21, an AMERICAN KESTREL, possibly two, was observed in northwest Murray Co.
A DICKCISSEL was also observed in Murray Co. along Carlton Petty Rd.

Seven BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS were seen on 6/26 at the Phinizy Swamp
Nature Park, Augusta, Richmond Co. Also observed on 6/26 were four BLACK-NECKED
STILTS. A SWALLOW-TAILED KITE was seen earlier in the week and a GLOSSY IBIS was
seen here a few weeks ago.

The SOUTH POLAR SKUA was again observed on 6/21 from the Harris Branch
Recreation Area, Carters Lake, Gilmer Co., along with two COMMON LOONS and a
breeding-plumaged HORNED GREBE. Best spots to search for the skua are the
marina, the Damsite Recreation Area, Northbank Park, Harris Branch Recreation
Area and Woodring Branch Recreation Area. Most parks and recreation areas around
the lake have $4 entrance fees.

The SOUTH POLAR SKUA was reported again on 6/20 at Carters Lake on the
Murray/Gilmer Co. line. Best vantage points to search for this bird have been at
the marina, the Damsite Recreation Area ($4 entrance fee) near the marina, and
the Woodring Branch Recreation Area ($4 entrance fee). The FRANKLIN'S GULL has
not been reported recently. Also at Carters Lake, an AMERICAN BITTERN was seen
flying by the marina on 6/20.

A SOUTH POLAR SKUA was observed at Carters Lake on Tuesday, 6/12. It was first
observed in the morning near the marina at Carters Lake and again during the
late afternoon and evening in the same vicinity. The bird has been observed
following boats, so may be ranging some distance on the lake.

A BROWN PELICAN was seen flying by the Aqualand Marina at Lake Lanier, near
Flowery Branch, Hall Co. on 6/3.
A BROWN PELICAN was seen on Sunday below the Walter F. George Dam, Clay Co.,
along the Georgia Alabama state line. Six LAUGHING GULLS were also seen at the
dam. Eleven species of warblers were found in Clay, Quitman and Calhoun Cos.,

The Red-necked Phalarope discovered on 5/29 in a pond at the intersection of
Brandon Farm and Taff Rds., Bartow Co., has not been reported since.
The following birds were reported from the main impoundment area on the east
side of US 17 at the Altamaha SWMA, McIntosh Co., this past week: 60 GLOSSY
IBIS, 9 MOTTED DUCKS with 13 ducklings, 11 BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS, 6
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, 9 LEAST BITTERNS, 1 PURPLE GALLINULE, about 40
BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and 3 GULL-BILLED TERNS.
The following birds were reported from Gould’s Inlet on St. Simons Island: 37
RED KNOTS, 4 WHIMBREL, 1 SANDWICH TERN and 1 CASPIAN TERN.
From the vicinity of Jekyll Island: 2 GRAY KINGBIRDS at the Convention Center, 1
COMMON TERN on South Beach, and 2 ROSEATE SPOONBILLS and 1 GULL-BILLED TERN at
the Visitors Center.
