A DICKCISSEL was seen in Greene County on 8/20, along Ward Rd, west of GA Hwy 15 in Oconee County, just north of the Oconee River.

A COMMON GROUND DOVE was reported on 8/20 from the Carter's Lake Powerhouse Road area, very far north for this species.

COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have been reported moving throughout the state; the highest recent count of 25 on 8/24 was made in Gwinnett County.

On 8/25 up to three BROWN PELICANS were seen (different locations) at Lake Walter F. George. Also reported were STILT SANDPIPER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, WILLET, COMMON TERN, FORSTER'S TERN, and BLACK TERN.

On 8/25 at Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve a field trip turned up some nice migrants, including BLUE-WINGED WARLBER, CERULEAN WARBLER, and LEAST FLYCATCHER.

Bartow County is a great location for looking for shorebirds at this time of year, within a reasonable driving distance of Atlanta. The most productive spot is along Taff Rd, at a pond known as "The Mud Hole."
Recent reports include a WILSON'S SNIPE on 8/26; 20 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, and a juvenile STILT SANDPIPER from 8/27-8/28.

From E.L. Huie on 8/27 a STILT SANDPIPER, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, three SNOWY EGRETS, and a few early or summering waterfowl such as AMERICAN COOT, RING-NECKED DUCK, PIED-BILLED GREBE, and NORTHERN SHOVELER.

From the sod farms near the town of Marshallville, on 8/26 two UPLAND SANDPIPER and two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen; on 8/24 20 UPLAND SANDPIPER and a nice flock of 8 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER were found.

A pelagic trip left from Tybee Island into Georgia waters off the Atlantic Ocean on 8/26. Species seen included CORY'S SHEARWATER, GREATER SHEARWATER, AUDUBON'S SHEARWATER, BLACK-CAPPED PETREL (new state high count of four), BRIDLED TERN, SOOTY TERN, and RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.

An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was found at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park on 8/28. The bird was seen near the top of the mountain at different locations throughout the day.

A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen on 8/28 at the bridge of GA Hwy 136 over Talking Rock Creek, which is at the southern edge of the Carter's Lake Re- regulation Lake in Murray County. Two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were found at this location in the afternoon on 8/29, along with SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and several other migrating shorebirds.

A RUFFED GROUSE was seen in the Cohutta Wilderness Area NW of Blue Ridge, GA (Fannin County). This sighting was about a quarter mile before reaching Jones Cemetery, the terminus of Foster's Branch Rd which leads from Watson Gap at the western terminus of Old GA 2. (Delorme 14, B-1) GABO Archives:

Three BLACK TERNS in primarily breeding plumage were seen on the Carter's Lake Re-regulation Lake in Murray County. Also seen around the area were CLIFF SWALLOWS and BARN SWALLOWS. The "Re-reg Lake" sits on the border of Gilmer County and Murray County.

A flock of MISSISSIPPI KITES was observed on 8/15 in Spalding County near Griffin, Georgia. This is in southern Spalding Co where Macon Road intersects Swint Road and Cook Road; Swallow-tailed Kites previously seen at this location were not reported. These flocks move around large areas and often relate to freshly-mowed grassy fields. BUFF-BREASTED and UPLAND SANDPIPERS continue as of 8/18 in Macon County, near the town of Marshallville. Up to 15 UPLAND SANDPIPERS and one BUFF- BREASTED SANDPIPER were seen at the Super Sod Farm SW of the town, and one BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen at the sod farm NE of Marshallville along Juice Plant Rd and Vegetable Rd.

The Rufous Hummingbird previously reported from Dawson County was not seen. It is interesting to note that this bird previously wintered in Acworth, GA and may show up there again.

Wood warbler migration is picking up at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield park, with 12 Warbler Spp. being observed in one day in the last week.

E.L. Huie facility - PECTORAL SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPERS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 PURPLE MARTINS, 10 GREAT EGRETS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS remained there this summer, and I Lakes Shamrock / Blalock: YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, ANHINGA Wetlands Center: EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, SUMMER TANAGERS.
