A TUNDRA SWAN first reported on the 14th from Paris Lake at Georgia Highlands
College near Rome, and in Floyd County, has been recently missed at Paris Lake
but has been refound at a small lake located on the north side of Industrial
Blvd. very near the college, see the following posts for detailed directions for
the new location. The swan was last reported on the 30th.

Yesterday evening the first Georgia record IVORY GULL, an adult, first found at
West Point Lake near West Point (Troup County), Georgia on the 25th, the
southernmost IVORY GULL on record, and seen, enjoyed, and photographed by many
this week, passed away from injuries probably inflicted by a large predator.

After being discovered on 1/2, a 2nd Georgia record BUFF-BELLIED HUMMINGBIRD, an
AHY (After Hatching Year) female, was banded at a private residence on St.
Simons Island in Glynn County on 1/5. The hummingbird had been seen daily since
the banding, but has now not been seen for a couple of days.

NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen at West Point Lake in Troup County on the 26th and
the 27th.

A first Georgia record IVORY GULL, an adult, was found at West Point Lake and
Dam near West Point, Georgia, and in Troup County on the 25th. The bird has been

at the site since the banding. Contact procedures and location information are

calls to the homeowners to requesting permission to visit and to scheduling your
visit, using for directions the information contained in the posts. Please
attempt to carpool as much as possible to minimize disruption for the
homeowners. Also, it is requested that flashes not be used when photographing

After being discovered on 1/2, a 2nd Georgia record BUFF-BELLIED HUMMINGBIRD, an

then seen regularly from between 9 AM and 1 PM, and then again regularly at 3:15
PM for at least an hour. So far the hummer has continued everyday at the site
since the banding. However, there has not been word for the last two days
concerning the Buff-bellied. This does not indicate that the hummer has departed
and the compiler should have an update sometime tomorrow as to whether the bird
is still present or not. Contact procedures and location information are

A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER, Georgia's 2nd when accepted, first seen on the 15th, and
first reported as a Nashville Warbler, has been validated today via analysis of
video taken of the bird. The Virginia's was first seen on the 15th, and was also
seen on the 16th and the 17th. Visitors will be trying to relocate the warbler
at first light Monday morning. Since the 15th this warbler is only showing up at
first light or shortly thereafter, and only for a brief period. The homeowner is
welcoming folks to try for the bird and requests a call or an email prior to
folks visiting coming, contact information is in the second post following.

was banded at a private residence on St. Simons Island in Glynn County on 1/5.

49 BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS were found on the east side of the Altamaha
Waterfowl Management Area in Glynn County just south of Darien on 1/6. The
Long-billed Dowitcher flock previously seen was not relocated, the impoundments
where the dowitchers were last seen has been flooded.

The Six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE first found on 1/3 on the Bartow County Loop

3 female COMMON EIDERS were seen near a jetty at Sea Island in Glynn County on
the 5th and 6th. Common Eiders, both male and female have been seen in the area
of the jetty since November 6th and with numbers as high as 6. Also seen at the
Sea Island site for the eiders this week were LESSER SCAUP, SURF SCOTER, BLACK
SCOTER, RUDDY DUCK, PIPING PLOVER, and AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER. A PIPING PLOVER
was also reported from the Andrew's Island Causeway in Brunswick in Glynn County
on the 6th. Please be aware that Sea Island is a private island and you must be

A male PAINTED BUNTING first reported at a feeder at a private residence in
Carrollton, in Carroll County, on 12/28, was still being seen on 1/6. If you
wish to try to see this bird please call the RBA and leave your name and

frequenting the feeder since the middle of December.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR, probably relocated, was seen at Sam Smith Park (Senior
Aquatic Center), Cartersville, in Bartow County on 1/3. This bird is probably a
remnant of the flock which has been seen off and on at the location since 12/12.
