rare bird alerts. . .

A Statewide Rare Bird Alert (RBA) is supported by the Georgia Ornithological Society and compiled by Jeff Sewell. The RBA may be reached at (770) 493-8862 and is generally updated at least once per week.

Until August 2000, Brad Bergstrom and Lilla Kate Hart co-compiled the South Georgia/North Florida RBA. Although this RBA is no longer in operation, Brad Bergstrom's transcription archives of the South Georgia/North Florida Rare Bird Alert are still accessible on the GOS web site.

In addition to the taped messages, the RBA's may be viewed online via the National Birding Hotline Cooperative's (NBHC) BirdEast email listserve. Instructions for subscribing to BirdEast may be found at the NBHC's Web Site.

The Statewide RBA is transcribed courtesy of Steve Barlow, Lois Stacey, Larry Russell, Mark McShane and Jim Flynn.

The BirdEast transcriptions for the Statewide RBA and the South Georgia/North Florida RBA are archived on this site. The tables below contain the latest transcriptions of each hotline and contain links to access archive pages. Species that are boldfaced and CAPITALIZED are considered to be "review species," meaning that the Georgia Ornithological Society's Checklist and Records Committee requests documentation be submitted to them for these species. Although these species appear in the transcripts and in the transcript archives, acceptance of these sightings by the Records Committee is not implied.  A list of all Georgia reportable species may be obtained from the Checklists of Georgia Birds page.

Species that are boldfaced and in Title Case are review species as well, but that the identification is not 100% certain, have apparently left the area where they were discovered, or were reported from nearby states.
