The Annotated Checklist of Georgia Birds [Beaton, et. al., 2003] describes the American White Pelican as an accidental visitor to the Georgia Piedmont, with most records occurring in the fall. Robert Patterson discovered and photographed this particular bird below West Point Dam, Troup Co., in the early afternoon on 28 March 2003. The bird was observed intermittently at the dam and the adjacent areas of West Point Lake until mid April 2003.
