On 28 May 2004, personnel at Georgia Power's Plant Hammond, located near Rome, GA, discovered five American White Pelicans resting in the plant's #1 Ash Pond.  The pelicans stayed for a couple of hours before departing.

The birds' presence were brought to Marion Dobbs' attention by Butch Lanier and the photos were provided by David Taylor, both of whom work at the plant.

There are very few records for this species in Georgia's Ridge and Valley physiographic region, the last being mid-November 2003 at Garden Lakes, Rome, GA.
