First reported by a Clayton County Water Authority employee on Thursday, 26 August 2004, this juvenile Roseate Spoonbill was quickly confirmed by Carol Lambert, and subsequently observed by many birders in the Atlanta area through early September.

Primarily a local nonbreeding coastal resident in Georgia, spoonbills have been known to stray inland during the late summer, but are accidental north of the Fall Line.

According to the Annotated Checklist of Georgia Birds, this  constitutes only the second record for the Atlanta metro area, the first being at Echo Lake in Dakalb Co., 19-20 August 1995.
