I was more than a bit skeptical when co-workers told me yesterday that they had seen a "flamingo" on base. Then they described the bird and I grabbed binoculars and headed for the office door. Standing 10 feet from a Great Blue Heron on a sandbar at Scout Lake (southern end of the base) was a Roseate Spoonbill. Not a flamingo, but a great bird & a rarity for Warner Robins.

Unfortunately, the bird didn't stick around for more than a day. Not surprising, since we really don't have spoonbill habitat. Maybe the bad weather we've been having blew him our way.

The bird was discovered by Art Ramsey, Ed May, and Darryl Mercer.
