This raptor was discovered on 28 January 2006 by Carol Lambert and Jeff Sewell, and identified as an adult dark intermediate (dark rufous) morph "Western" Red-tailed Hawk (ref: Raptors of Eastern North America, Wheeler) on Old Alabama Rd. between Taylorsville Elementary School and Big Pond Rd. (DeLorme p. 19, grid E-7 just west of creek crossing) in Bartow Co. They observed the bird perched and flying from a distance.
