I observed four Limpkins at Chickasawhatchee WMA from about 9:00 Am until 10:00 AM on Sunday July 2nd. The sighting was confirmed when Tod Lanier and I visited the site at around 3:00 PM that afternoon. Two other parties have seen Limpkins in the same vicinity since Sunday. Sightings since Sunday were on the south side of the road.

The WMA is located west-southwest of Albany on the south side of State Highway 62. Gate 15 (Mud Creek Road gate) is approximately 10 miles west-southwest of the airport which is on the southwest side of town. The WMA is located on Delorme 57 A7, A8, B7 and B8.

I wheeled the distances off a map so they are only approximate. I did not find a current map of the WMA on-line so I am making the attached copy available:

The Limpkins were found on the north side of the third bridge (east to west) in a series of wooden bridges over the Chicasawhatchee Creek between intersection H and intersection B as shown on the DNR map. Enter the WMA at Gate 15 on the south side of Highway 62. Proceed on graded road approximately 2.7 miles to Intersection G and turn right (west). Proceed along this graded road for 1.1 miles to Intersection H. Bear right (northwest) and follow the graded road about 0.8 mile to the creek. There are many side roads so don't turn until you get to the marked intersections.

There is a good place to park off the road as you enter the woods of the swamp. The third bridge is a couple of hundred yards into the woods. Maps are available at hunter check-in kiosks at all of the gates. All roads are unimproved and passable in dry weather for most vehicles.
