Discovered on 2 March 2006, these three Whooping Cranes made a surprise stop along the Chattahoochee River near the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  The cranes are part of a project organized by Operation Migration for the US Fish & Wildlife Service, which is attempting to re-introduce Whooping Cranes to eastern North America.  The flight path undertaken each fall and spring brings the Whooping Cranes through Georgia, but they are rarely observable at a public location.
