On 31 January 2009, Chris McClure reported to Georgia Birders Online that a Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow was discovered on an Auburn University ornithology class field trip to the Bradley Unit of the Eufaula NWR in southwestern GA while searching for Le Conte's Sparrows (Ammodramus leconteii). Interestingly, this was the second report during the winter of 2008-2009 of this species in the state away from its normal winter haunts in the tidal marshes of the Georgia Coast, the first being a bird photographed in Gordon Co. in northwestern GA in late December 2008. |
