The following account was prepared from an email from Lydia Thompson:

A first year male Yellow-headed Blackbird was seen on a feeder at Wild Birds Unlimited in Redfern Village, St. Simons Island. The Bird was first spotted by John Johnson on September 15, 1998, at 7:30 am and confirmed by Lydia C. Thompson September 17, 1998, at 3:00pm. The bird was at the feeder for long periods in the mornings and in the late afternoons until it disappear September 21, 1998, after a morning feeding. The bird was also seen by Gene Keferi, Darrell Lee and photographed by Mike Chapman.

Description
Size: larger that the Red-wing Blackbird but not as big as the Boat-tailed Grackles which were both around the feeder.
Color: Generally black-brown on the the body- wings, back, belly. The top of the head the same black-brown but the supercilium was yellow, black eye line, ear patch dark and throat down to belly deep yellow. There was very little white on the wings. The bird sat on a feeder 10 feet away from the window. I used Nikon 7x35 binoculars. Also on Friday afternoon he sat in the top of a tree near the store and did the typical posturing for a Yellow-headed blackbird.
