Camp Talon Internships

What will interns do at this camp? This year’s camp will include internship opportunities for one female and one male birder. The interns will attend the camp free of charge (noregistration fee). In return, the interns will be expected to mentor new birders, serve as the person in charge of her or his cabin, and assist the instructors on the bus, in the field, and in the classroom. This will be an opportunity to develop teaching, planning, and leadership skills. Instead of solely focusing on birding goals during the camp, interns will be expected to spend much of their time serving the needs of the other birders.

Who qualifies and how do you apply?  Applicants must be ages 17-19 on May 31, 2015, and must have attended at least one previous Camp TALON. The interested birder must fill out the application on the next page, and must write an essay (minimum 300 words) explaining why he or she wants to serve as an intern, and what she or he will do to meet the internship responsibilities as described in the third sentence of the first paragraph above. Since you have attended at least one camp before, you know what the schedule looks like and what the campers and the teachers need with respect to assistance. In other words, explain what you will do to make the camp week a success for all involved.

When should you apply? The deadline for submitting your internship application and essay is April 15, 2015. Recipients of internships will be notified by April 22, 2015.

Where do you apply? Send your application and essay to Bob Sargent at kywarbler@cox.net or at 1263 Clairmont Place, Macon, GA 31204.
